On the 29th June, two of our group members attended the Communiversity Awards in Maynooth. The awards ceremony is to recognise the achievement of completing the Communiversity programme. The initiative is a free university level programme that takes place in local libraries and engages adult learners. This is a huge achievement for our two participants as the programme runs for 17 weeks and includes 4 modules lasting 4 weeks each. Having undertaken classes in Local History, Philosophy, Economics and Politics, they finished the programme having covered a great range of subject areas.
One of the participants, Stephen, says that the Communiversity programme sparked an interest in learning in him and encouraged him to look into other courses. It was through his involvement in the programme that he decided to undertake a course in Criminology in Pearse College. He highlights the Philosophy classes and an assignment he completed on the history of Ballyfermot as the best parts of the programme. When asked how he felt when being presented with his certificate, he recalls that it was a good feeling and a sense of achievement for him.
After the group were presented with their certificates, they were given a tour around the Maynooth campus which allowed for a great insight into university life. We would like to say a huge congratulations to the two participants that completed the Communiversity programme!
